destroying everything she can in my room."
"You fucking miserable prick!" she shouted. "What are you, stealing boyfriends! After Sarah
supported you, you fucking ass! She fucking gave you Steven, and you want Sammy, too!"
Aidan blocked with the pillow again as Sammy edged around the room. She was lunging at him
again when public safety arrived, the officer quickly restraining Caroline, it being very clear that
Aidan was simply defending himself. The officer took both Sammy and Aidan aside and asked them
questions separately, then took statements from several people in the hall.
"You can't do this," screamed Caroline. "He took my boyfriend. Don't I have rights?"
"Are you pressing charges?" the officer asked them, her eyes quickly moving to the trail of blood
on each of their cheeks.
Aidan looked at Sammy, who shook his head.
"No," Aidan said softly, "but I would like a restraining order in place."
"Are you sure? It looks like she did a lot of damage." The officer looked around at the destruction
in the room.
"Her boyfriend is leaving her for me. I would have been pissed, too," he said, glancing at Sammy
and wiping away the blood on Sammy's cheek. "I still want a restraining order, with the understanding
that I will press charges if she violates it."
The officer nodded and pulled him to one side explaining what would need to be done for that to
happen. Aidan didn't watch Caroline as she was escorted from the building, but it was clear from the
screaming that she was not going quietly.
When she was gone, Sammy sighed and flopped himself back on his bed. "She destroyed a lot of
your stuff."
"My laptop?" asked Aidan.
"Safe, and your bag. But she ripped your posters down, and some of your photos got smashed."
Aidan glanced at the wall and shrugged. "Well, it's an excuse to redecorate, I guess. What else?"
"The clothes are mostly safe. She smashed your tablet computer, though."
Aidan groaned. At least it wasn't the laptop. "Fine."
"I can replace it," said Sammy. "I'm sorry."
Aidan shook his head. "It's done. She knows. She hates me. I expected that." He sighed rather
deeply. "What about you? Are you okay, other than this?" He pointed at Sammy's cheek.
"She got me good a couple times," said Sammy. "Doesn't matter, she's out of my life." He covered
his face in his hands and took several long breaths. "She's out."
"You okay?"
"Didn't expect her to trash the room, man," said Sammy, his expression dazed. "I would've told her
somewhere else, but I thought, private, that was the way to go. I didn't think she'd want to be dumped
in public."
"Wouldn't have mattered," said Aidan. "She'd have made a different kind of mess."
"I cared about her, man," said Sammy, his eyes squeezed shut. "I did."
Aidan moved to sit down next to Sammy on the bed, his fingers gliding lightly over the scratches
on Sammy's cheek. "I'm sorry she hurt you."
"This is nothing," said Sammy, fingers going self-consciously to his cheek, "but that tablet, that's
hundreds of dollars."
"I'm not worried about it," said Aidan. His hand glided over the injuries one last time, and then he
leaned over and kissed Sammy's cheek softly. "I needed you to do that. I had to know it was done. I
hope you know that."
Aidan moved to stand up, and Sammy reached out and grasped him, one massive hand wrapping
around Aidan's arm. "Give me some sugar?" Sammy asked softly.
"That sounds so cheesy," said Aidan as he leaned over and kissed Sammy, letting Sammy deepen
the kiss, but only briefly before he pulled away.
"You know you love it," said Sammy, smirking.
Aidan leaned against Sammy's chest, snuggling into the dark fabric of his t-shirt. "Steven didn't
take it well."
"How bad?" asked Sammy, running his fingers through Aidan's hair.
Aidan shook his head. "Bad."
"Don't want to talk about it?"
"I do," said Aidan. "I need to talk about it. But it can't be with you, not now. That's not fair, not
when we're trying to start something new."
Sammy swallowed, nervously leaning down to press a kiss into Aidan's hair. "All right, man, when
you're ready then."
"My bed has glass from the tablet all over it, doesn't it?" asked Aidan.
"Yeah," said Sammy. "We should probably clean that up."
"Tomorrow," said Aidan. He kicked off his shoes and pulled his legs up tight, curling into a ball
against Sammy. "Tonight you're going to hold me. Tonight you're going to spend time with me and
help me make sure I know that I did the right thing."
"Sharing a bed?"
"Is that a problem?" asked Aidan, his arms wrapping around Sammy's chest.
"Just going to want to touch you."
Aidan kissed the fabric of the dark t-shirt. "I'm sure you'll find ways to resist my charms," he said.
Then he stood up and walked to the door, turning out the lights.
Sammy slid fully onto the bed, shucking the track pants and pulling the blankets over him, holding
them up until Aidan slipped under them with him. Aidan turned, back against Sammy's chest. Aidan's
head rested pillowed on one of Sammy's powerful arms. Sammy let the blanket fall over them and
pulled Aidan tight against him, an arm wrapped around Aidan's middle.
"Like this?" asked Sammy.
Aidan twisted to kiss Sammy gently on the lips, allowing it to be tender, but not prolonged, then
wrapped Sammy's arm back around him. "I've dreamed of being like this with you."
There was a deeply hitched breath and a soft returned whisper, "Me, too. This is better than it was
in the dream."
"Sammy," said Aidan softly. "When you fought over me. Steven won, didn't he?"
Aidan felt the grip around him tighten.
"He won, and he told you to try anyway."
"Yes," whispered Sammy, his voice scarcely a breath. "Steven won." Sammy's grip on Aidan was
strong, arms wrapped tightly around Aidan's waist as he pressed his chest close against the unfamiliar
feel and texture of the waistcoat. "How did you know?"
"Because he loves me," said Aidan very softly. "He would have fought until you put him in the
hospital. He would never have let you win."
Sammy gulped. "He had me on the ground and he said you needed me and that I had to... that if I
really wanted you, I couldn't do some half-assed bullshit, that it had to be real, that it had to mean
something." Sammy's face pressed against Aidan's hair. "I didn't really expect you to give him up."
Aidan was trembling. "I almost didn't."
"I like this," said Sammy softly. "You, in my bed, I mean."
"I didn't mean to be in your bed like this so fast. It makes me feel like..." Aidan sighed. "I feel like
I'm cheating on him, Sammy."
